Female artists are thriving in the graffiti arena. But it was not always this way.
Forty years ago, the graffiti world was male-dominated, and just a few women practiced the art form. Among them was Lady Pink (AKA Sandra Fabara), who embarked on this artistic journey in 1979.
Through May 20, her story is being told at Miami’s Museum of Graffiti. The exhibit, entitled “Lady Pink Graffiti HerStory,” spans her four-decade career, from her start painting on trains to her renown today.
“This exhibit is the story of a young woman who discovered the graffiti art form in high school and how it opened the doors for her as an artist, made her lifelong friends and mentors and peers within the arts, and gave her an avenue to have a successful career,” says museum cofounder and curator Alan Ket. “It’s also the story of a Latina artist who found her voice and her activism in her paintings. Some residents in Washington, D.C., want to get rid of a mural of late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
The mural, created by California artist Jules Muck at the request of Miami-based Murals for Humanity, depicted the late Supreme Court justice with several tattoos on her face, including George Floyd s face, a Vote sticker, and the letters BLM in reference to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Muck, who noted she was asked to paint the mural in an email to the
Washington Examiner, said despite the fact that a lot of people liked the mural, she offered to assist in removing or changing the piece due to some feedback on Instagram @muckrock.

President Joe Biden made a rare appearance at a joint announcement with vaccine makers on Wednesday. As Biden turned to leave the joint announcement, reporters began shouting questions at the president, desperate to get answers on many issues facing the American people. Biden turned to select one of the questions, ignoring one on when he will do a press conference. It dealt with what he planned to do with surplus vaccines.
