Juhu Airport to say goodbye to its water-logging and flooding problems

Citizens using
Juhu airport can finally heave a sigh of relief. Airport Director Ashok Verma and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) storm water drain department has come up with a plan to have all drains along the periphery of the airport spread over 400 acres. Hopefully, this will solve the airport’s
waterlogging woes during the monsoon.
Verma said, “There are
several housing colonies and slums along the airport and they too get flooded. There was no place for water to drain out. So finally, we gave land on our periphery for construction of storm water drains so that the water can flow out.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport that was endangering runway safety, has been reduced in size after repeated objections from BMC and Airports Authority of India. A funnel zone is an area aligned with the runways along the specific paths followed by flights while landing and takeoff.
