Two members of a third generation of Detroit musical royalty have paired up for a new project.
Singer Juan Winans and his sister, actress Deborah Joy Winans, have teamed for the upbeat, feel-good song “Never on My Own,” the first peek at Juan Winans’ upcoming album “Legacy.”
Hailing from the prolific Winans gospel family, Juan and Deborah Joy previously teamed up for theatrical roles as their famous uncle and aunt BeBe and CeCe Winans in a 2019 theater production.
The new track, which debuted Tuesday with an audio-only YouTube clip, borrows from the chorus of the Burt Bacharach-Carol Bayer Sager song “On My Own,” most famously made a hit in 1986 by Patti Labelle and Michael McDonald.
