Jordan Yu is looking to expand the horizons of the iconic Prince George Roll-A Dome after securing a new three-year lease.
The future of the 69-year-old building was in question last summer after the previous operator Jon Lafontaine didn’t renew his lease, fuelling talk the building would be sold to a developer.
Yu operates the Northern Bounce Basketball Academy, which has made the facility its home base over the past three years.
He told
MyPGNow.com the Roll-A-Dome has some sentimental value.
It doesn’t look like much from the outside, and aside from a coat of paint the Roll-A-Dome resembles an aging warehouse that has seen better days. But it’s what goes on inside the building that counts. The new lease has prompted a collective sigh of relief from user groups who would have no other place to go if it closed permanently. “The Roll-A-Dome has been part of the PG community for generations and we want to keep it going as a community centre,” said Yu. “So many great memories and times for people have been spent in it. People really love the place. You can just tell how special this place is for a lot of different people and we’re hell bent on keeping it that way for everyone.”
