Saturday was an excellent day to wear red in Athens as some 20,000 members of the Georgia Bulldog Nation celebrated G-Day in the early afternoon and a decidedly scarlet-clad group gathered later in the day to salute the birthday of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, who turned 81 on Friday.
Local artist Stan Mullins threw open the doors of his expansive Pulaski Street studio Saturday evening to host the birthday party, complete with a cake featuring Denmark’s distinctive Dannebrog (flag) and an international guest list that included visitors from Denmark, Canada, Lichtenstein, Hungary and Taiwan.
Mullins, who in pre-pandemic days had made his creative space available for weddings and events for years, admitted he was quite excited about being able to host an event again.
