Another 24 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Friday by the Brant County Health Unit in the last 24 hours.
That brings the total number of active cases in Brantford and the County of Brant to 160.

According to the Brant Community Healthcare System’s website, five people are currently being treated for the virus at Brantford General Hospital, with four of them in critical care.
There have been 3,007 confirmed local cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic was declared in March 2020. Of those cases, 2,827 are considered resolved.

The Brant County Health Unit reported Wednesday 23 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
Figures provided by the health unit show there are 161 active cases of COVID-19 in Brantford-Brant and there are nine people in hospital receiving treatment for the virus. The Brant Community Healthcare System says it has eight COVID-19 patients at Brantford General Hospital including four in critical care.

The discrepancy is due to reporting times.
As of Wednesday, there have been 2,964 positive COVID-19 cases in Brantford-Brant since the pandemic began and of those, 2,783 have been resolved. Twenty people locally have died of COVID-19.

The total number of new COVID-19 cases in Brantford-Brant for the week ending Sunday is up slightly from the previous week, but the number of cases reported in the last 24 hours has dropped significantly compared to recent days.
The Brant County Health Unit reported 161 cases of the virus last week, compared to 154 reported for the previous week, and 239 for the week ending April 25. Since the pandemic was declared in March 2020, the highest number of confirmed cases reported in one week by the health unit was 269 for the week ending April 18, 2021.

The number of COVID patients in Brantford General Hospital continues to fall.
According to the Brant Community Healthcare System website, eight COVID positive patients were receiving care on Friday, with six in critical care and two listed as other.

The Brant County Health Unit website lists 11 COVID patients in BGH but a spokesperson said the agency’s tally can sometimes lag behind the BCHS numbers.
At one point last month, BGH saw a record 28 COVID patients, with many from outside the area.
