THE Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board on Wednesday approved the CUC-Public School System net metering policy memorandum of agreement.
Following the approval of the MOA, CUC legal counsel Jose Mafnas Jr. said PSS can avail itself of net metering benefits.
But he said there is a legal issue between CUC and PSS regarding  the interpretation of some of the language of Public Law 18-75, which allows CUC to establish a net metering agreement with public health and education entities.
Mafnas said that the CUC board ârecognized the need for this MOA, so that PSS can install its solar panel system.â
He said the agreement will also allow the parties to amend the MOA if needed pursuant to the opinion of Attorney General Edward Manibusan.
GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres appointed former Board of Education Chairwoman Janice A. Tenorio to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors and former Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Melvin Faisao to the Northern Marianas Housing Corp. board of directors.

The governor also renominated Tiana Hofschneider to the CNMI Scholarship Board of Directors to represent Tinian, saying he and Lt. Gov. Arnold Palacios âlook forward to the Senateâs favorable action on Ms. Hofschneiderâs nomination.â
In his letter to Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider, the governor said he and the lt. governor are confident that Tenorioâs membership on an important board is critical to ensure consistency and continuity in fulfilling the goals and objectives of CUC.
