Local church celebrates Mother s Day with free gas

WBBJ TV May 8, 2021 JACKSON, Tenn, A local church is celebrating Mother’s Day early with a great surprise for mothers around Jackson. Empowerment Community Church hosted a gas giveaway at Fuel City gas station in Jackson Saturday, giving away free gas to women and mothers only. This is the church’s second annual gas giveaway. Church members are hoping it will shed some light on all the mothers in the community. “And this is just a way to show the greatest gift that God gave his grace and his mercy and love,” said Pastor Ken Daniels. The church filled 140 gas tanks in the community.

A fight broke out between the groups soon afterward, where people toppled tables and sent other patrons scrambling to get out of the way. The shooting took place at the intersection of West Street and Mitchell Avenue at about 5 p.m., Jackson police said. Sam Brown, Jackson Police Department spokesman, on Sunday identified the two killed as Marlin Thompson, 14, and Carlos Stewart, 18. One individual was shot in the head and the other in the neck area while they were in a vehicle reported stolen earlier that morning, JPD had previously said.

We ask residents why they chose to buy a ticket and what they would if they were to win the Powerball. “I just wanted to buy one to get lucky. If I win, it will go to my wife first though,” said local resident, Justin Reed, . Some people played for both the Mega Million jackpot and the Powerball, even buying 30 tickets at a time. Jackson resident, Erik Shefer says he comes to buy a ticket everyday and if he wins there is a lot he will do with the money.
