Jackie Gleason - Everything2.com

Jackie Gleason Sat Aug 29 2009 at 22:55:37 What s also not noted is that he had one of the best private libraries of classical literature in the non-Hispanic Western hemisphere. He noted that thin people were beautiful, but fat people were adorable! Also that he was buried in the style of the early Christians, that is, his monument includes a banquet table in the Late Greek style, with effigies of himself and his wife reclining on couches. The message being, We are still here. Let us eat and drink together, and so, rejoice! (I find that incredibly moving.) Yup. You are invited to take your picnic baskets and eat and drink with the Great One. Why is he called so? Because Orson Welles once quoted a Greek poet to him, and he replied It s not so, it s. (apparently repeating a Jesuit education).on for several verses of Brooklyn-inflected Attic Greek.

Vikki Dougan on How She Became 'The Back' - The New York Times

April 21, 2021Updated 10:09 a.m. ET The evening of Feb. 28, 1957 in Los Angeles was a balmy one, and the 14th annual Golden Globes awards were in progress at the Ambassador Hotel. Inside, a nervous Hollywood newcomer named Vikki Dougan was about to present the award for Best Supporting Actor to Earl Holliman for his performance in “The Rainmaker.” Ms. Dougan had slipped on a pink satin backless dress for the special occasion one of several she’d had custom-made after signing a contract with John Wayne’s production company, Batjac and covered her shoulders with a mink stole. Before making her way to the stage to present, she realized she wouldn’t be able to hand off the award, shake Holliman’s hand and hold up her shawl at the same time. She gently let the mantle fall from her shoulders to the ground, revealing her toned, taut and impossibly shapely back as she made her way to the stage.

Famous American actress Dawn Wells dies from Covid-19

Famous American actress Dawn Wells dies from Covid-19 Published 30 December 2020 Popular American actress, Dawn Wells, best known for playing Mary Ann on the iconic CBS comedy series Gilligan’s Island has died at 82. The actress died on Wednesday morning in Los Angeles from complications due to Covid-19.  Wells, who was Miss Nevada in the 1959 Miss America pageant, beat out 350 actresses for the role of Mary Ann Summers. She also appeared in more 150 series and several movies during her career as well as on Broadway. Wells’ naive country character on Gilligan’s Island was juxtaposed with that of Tina Louise’s Ginger, a sultry movie star. The rather-stereotyped duelling characters fuelled a debate that continues among fans today: Mary Ann or Ginger, Deadline.com reports.
