Japex : Sale of Shale Gas Project Interest in Canada and Recording of Extraordinary Loss Related to the Project

Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX) announced that its Board of Directors has resolved to sell 10% of all ownership interest in the North Montney Joint Venture which undertakes the shale gas project in Canada (hereinafter the NM project ) to Petronas Energy Canada Ltd. (hereinafter PECL ), the operator of the NM project. The interest is owned by JAPEX Montney Ltd. (hereinafter JML ), an overseas consolidated subsidiary.
The NM project proceeds with shale gas development and production in the North Montney area of British Columbia, Canada. JAPEX participated in the NM project through JML in April 2013 and had proceeded with a feasibility study of the LNG project in addition to the shale gas development and production. Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX) has announced that the Soma LNG terminal (Shinchi-machi, Fukushima Prefecture) has now resumed power generation fuel supply to the Fukushima Natural Gas Power Plant, owned by Fukushima Gas Power Ltd. (FGP).
The LNG terminal was temporarily shut down following the earthquake off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture that occurred on 13 February 2021.
In conjunction with the resumption of fuel supply from the Soma LNG terminal, FGP’s power plant has also resumed operations.

The terminal had been temporarily shut down following an earthquake off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture on 13 February 2021.
The supply of LNG regasified gas used as fuel for power generation to the Fukushima Natural Gas Power Plant (owned by Fukushima Gas Power Ltd – FGP), located adjacent to the Soma LNG Terminal, is currently still suspended.
