Alfred, the animal that carried General Sir Isaac Brock into battle at Detroit and Queenston Heights, is the most famous warhorse in Canadian history. Few know that, according to local legend, Alfredâs final days were spent peacefully grazing on the grassy commons of the Goderich Square.
The Lizars sisters, in âIn the Days of the Canada Companyâ (1897), claim Rev. Francis Campbell, the first Anglican minister at St. Georgeâs Church, brought Alfred to Goderich into the Huron Tract in 1834.
