Renovations on schedule, rebranding progressing in Saugatuck Schools
SAUGATUCK Renovations and rebranding efforts at Saugatuck Public Schools are progressing as planned through the first month of summer.
The district began construction at Douglas Elementary in April, with the first phase of the project involving the construction of new art, science and music rooms. The work is the first in a series of projects outlined in the $35.6 million bond proposal passed in March 2020.
“They’ve been hitting it hard every day. So far, we’re right on track,” Superintendent Tim Travis said of the ongoing work. “Other than that week we had a lot of rain, we’ve been right on schedule. Some of the bigger spaces, like the art room, music room, science room and cafeteria, we’re hopeful those will be up and ready around winter break.”
Saugatuck Schools holds groundbreaking ceremony at Douglas Elementary
DOUGLAS A project years in the making at Douglas Elementary School had its official opening ceremony Thursday evening.
While the construction at DES stemming from Saugatuck Public Schools’ 2020 bond began in April, district administration, school board members and community members gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony at the school May 20.
“After years of planning, we are excited to finally begin extensive renovations at DES,” Superintendent Tim Travis said.
“We have many people to thank for making this investment in the future of the district’s students, including the community members who voted for the passage of a $35.6 million bond for these renovations and significant improvements to Saugatuck Middle School and High School.”
