Penally camp closure a 'massive victory' for asylum-seekers and supporters

THE closure of an ex-military barracks in Wales has been hailed as a “massive victory” for asylum-seekers and their supporters, but calls remain for the Home Office to shut down all camps. 
On Tuesday, Welsh Secretary Simon Hart said the Home Office had agreed to return Penally camp in Pembrokeshire to the Ministry of Defence by Sunday with the remaining asylum-seekers gradually moved out before then. 
It comes after an independent inspection of the Penally site, as well as Napier Barracks in Folkestone, Kent, found that they were both “impoverished, run-down and unsuitable for long-term accommodation.”
However the Home Office confirmed that Napier will “remain in operation in accordance with current needs,” despite closing Penally.  ....

An Army camp housing asylum seekers in Pembrokeshire is set to close within days, a UK government minister says.
It comes after inspectors said the camp at Penally and Napier Barracks in Kent were run-down and unsuitable .
The Home Office said it gave safe and secure accommodation for asylum seekers who would otherwise be destitute .
Welsh Secretary Simon Hart said the Home Office had agreed to return Penally to the Ministry of Defence by 21 March. ....

The Prime Minister is updating MPs on new controls in England on Wednesday morning ahead of a vote on the lockdown law this evening.
Boris Johnson announced a new national lockdown across England in a TV address watched by more than 24.5millon people on Monday evening.
The lockdown law was published late on Tuesday and came into force at 12.01am on Wednesday morning.
MPs will debate the law on Wednesday afternoon and vote whether to pass it retrospectively this evening. ....
