Texas and 2 other states make up 40% of recent U.S. COVID-19 cases, White House says
Texas, Florida and Missouri were cited as states with lower vaccination rates that were contributing to a surge in infections.

The White House called out Texas on Thursday, naming it among three states it said made up 40% of the nation’s recent coronavirus cases.
Florida and Missouri also were cited as states with lower vaccination rates that were contributing to a surge in infections.
“The data is clear,” White House COVID-19 response coordinator Jeff Zients said. “The case increases are concentrated in communities with low vaccination rates.”

Despite a looming eviction deadline for Sakura Gardens Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) seniors, supporters are preparing for a new round of challenges, it was learned during Saturday’s Kansha (Gratitude) Obon.

Mike Dark, staff attorney for the California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR), outlined a plan of action to fight the evictions. “Sakura is not a facility, it’s a neighborhood. It’s a community, and a community is always worth fighting for,” he said, pointing out that “although July 20 has been set as the date for closure by Pacifica, that date will not stick because the people here have the power to prevent it.”
