Paul LePage’s refusal to issue $6.5 million in bonds approved by voters in 2010 and $5 million approved in 2012. Those bonds include money the Land for Maine’s Future program has approved for 30 conservation projects, including the $337,500 Kennebec Land Trust officials were counting on to help fund the $1.2 million Howard Hill project.

Few turn out to protest in Augusta, larger group gathers in Wayne to celebrate peaceful transition

3 of 3 Maine state troopers exit the state office building Wednesday at the Capitol in Augusta following the inauguration of President Joseph Biden. Police maintained a presence around the Capitol but no incidents were reported. Andy Molloy/Kennebec Journal AUGUSTA Three protestors peacefully took to the State House complex to voice their frustration over President Joe Biden’s inauguration Wednesday, claiming the election was stolen, amid a significantly increased police presence. The three men walked around the outskirts of the state Capitol complex, two of them carrying signs. They said they had no intention of trying to enter the building which was guarded on all sides by numerous police, or causing any problems, in stark contrast to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by angry supporters of now-former President Donald Trump.
