Since yesterday, officials have determined that it was caused by a legally permitted burn that was not properly extinguished. Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands reminds residents and visitors to ensure that all fires are cold to the touch before leaving them unattended and to be aware that, under current drought conditions with the abundance of dry vegetation, winds can pick up and cause fires to quickly spread out of control. Individuals who cause wildfires can be held financially responsible for the costs to contain the flames and for resulting damage to any property.
