More than $10K raised for Operation Breakthrough after podcast host’s sudden death

A recording studio in Operation Breakthrough’s soon-to-debut Ignition Lab on Troost Avenue will pay tribute to Mathew George after fans, friends and family of the late podcast host made more than $10,000 in donations in his name.
“I didn’t even realize how many people Mathew affected or was friends with,” said Mary Ann George, mother of the Liberty High School graduate and nationally known co-host of the “She Rates Dogs: The Podcast.”
Operation Breakthrough in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, is breaking ground on a project Monday that will help them serve even more kids in Kansas City.And they ve got a big helper attached to the project Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. With help from Kelce s Eighty-Seven and Running Foundation, work begins Monday to transform an old, dilapidated muffler shop right next to the Operation Breakthrough facility into something called the Ignition Lab. The old muffler shop was one of Kelce s first purchases after signing a big contract extension last year.Kelce said he wanted to find a way to help expand Operation Breakthrough. The Ignition Lab will serve as the next step for students between the ages of 14 and 18 who have aged out of Operation Breakthrough s other programs.The lab will offer practical opportunities to engage those teenagers in real-world learning experiences with a focus on STEM education and training.
