IoD appoints new chair
The Institute of Directors (IoD) has appointed a new chair after a thorough search process, who will step into the role next Monday.
Patrick Macdonald is set to take the helm from interim chair John Watson, after he joined in September 2020.
The chair of the IoD’s Nomination Committee, Jean Church, said: “After a rigorous selection process, we were delighted to appoint Patrick. I would like to thank John Watson for stepping in as interim chair last year and helping to lead the IoD during the last seven months.”
Watson, who navigated the board’s response to the pandemic, will remain as part of the IoD Board when the new chair starts.

Brandon Lewis criticises Conor Murphy over untenable claims he doesn t have funding for victims payment scheme Secretary of State Brandon Lewis David Young, PA 24 February, 2021 12:06
Brandon Lewis has dismissed as untenable claims from Finance Minister Conor Murphy that he does not have the money to fund a victims payment scheme
The Secretary of State said Conor Murphy s assertion that Executive coffers will not stretch to cover the costs of the scheme is not credible.
Mr Lewis, who said the first year of the scheme could cost under £29 million, highlighted that the Executive had an underspend of millions in the current financial year.
Troubles victims have welcomed Arlene Foster s pledge that they will receive a pension despite a meeting between Stormont ministers and the Secretary of State failing to resolve a funding row.
Ministers held discussions with Brandon Lewis yesterday to end the stalemate over who foots a potential £1.2bn bill for the scheme.
Sources said the meeting ended without agreement being reached.
A fortnight ago, the Court of Appeal gave Stormont a four-week deadline to make progress with the scheme which is due to open next month.
Mrs Foster said. Many of those eligible to receive this pension could be living outside of Northern Ireland and therefore there remains a very strong argument that the Government should step up in terms of financing this scheme.
