Senate body discusses power theft by police, politicians Committee chief says staff of distribution firms is complicit in this activity PHOTO: FILE ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Power chairman has said that the Sindh police and politicians are involved in electricity theft and employees of power distribution companies are complicit in this activity. “Electricity theft is taking place in colonies and offices of Sindh police,” said Senator Saifullah Abro, who chaired the committee meeting. He said that in Sindh politicians were running 50 air conditioners in their homes and the employees of power distribution companies were their accomplices in the theft. ....
Top Story March 12, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Power Thursday approved the amendments to the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power Act 1997 empowering the government to impose surcharges on the power consumers to recover the cost what the power distribution companies (Discos) are piling up due to their own inefficiencies. National Assembly Standing Committee on Power meeting was chaired by Ch Salik Hussain. Five members of the Committee gave votes in favour of the bill whereas four members opposed it. Sher Akbar, Amir Dogar, Saif-ur-Rehman, Lal Chand Engineer and Sabir Hussain Qaimkhani voted in favour of the bill. However, Shazia Marri, Saira Bano, Ghulam Mustafa Shah and Riaz Hussain Pirzada opposed giving sweeping powers to the government to impose surcharges on the consumers. ....
