Boiling Springs hires new town manager The town of Boiling Springs has named Justin Longino as its new town manager.  Longino comes by way of Iredell County, where he was town manager of Troutman for three years, and the town s parks and recreation director before that. He has been a consultant for the Centralina Regional Council for the past year.  Anytime you can gain that (small town) experience its a good thing. We felt that and some other small things in his interview and his excitement for Boiling Springs, he was a good fit, said Bill Ellis, Boiling Springs mayor. We had a number of applicants and appreciate their interest in Boiling Springs and that made it exciting for us on the search committee. It was a choice to figure out who was the best fit and Justin fit that bill.

From Staff Reports CHARLOTTE – Centralina Regional Council announced the recipients of the Region of Excellence Awards in a virtual ceremony Wednesday. Presented annually, these awards recognize individuals, communities and organizations for their outstanding achievements in support of Centralina’s mission to expand opportunity and improve quality of life in the nine-county, Centralina region which includes Anson, Cabarrus, Gaston, Lincoln, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties. “Local governments nominated an innovative project, program, plan or individual that contributed to significant and positive advancements in the region this past year” said Geraldine Gardner, Centralina Regional Council executive director. “The Region of Excellence Awards provides an excellent forum for county and community leaders to learn from best practices and to network with their peers in the region.”

Regional transit plan envisions smarter commute

And they know it s probably only going to get worse. The Centralina Regional Council offered a recent update on its regional transit plan, which it calls CONNECT Beyond. The goal? To help the 12 counties throughout the Charlotte metro region build a better transportation system amid an expected surge in population over the next quarter century. Here are five things to know:  More than roads A regional transit plan could weave together a network of high-capacity options like light rail, rapid bus transit and street cars - along with a fixed route bus network. Other possibilities include transportation for those facing disabilities and shorter distance choices like bike sharing, carpooling and future autonomous vehicles.
