Letter: Climate bill is a good step
Evansville Courier & Press
which is why I’m encouraged by the recent reintroduction of the Growing Climate
Solutions Act in the U.S. Senate. This bill will give our farmers and foresters the support
they need to adopt sustainable practices to slow down climate change. It also provides
new sources of revenue for local economies in rural areas – a win-win.
Weird weather patterns have me worried for the fate of vulnerable birds like Indiana’s
Worm-eating Warbler. Audubon’s science shows that two-thirds of North American birds
are at-risk due to our changing climate. But I also know it’s not just birds and wildlife

Climate change leaves Indiana’s farmers and foresters among the most vulnerable. Extreme rainfall brought on by warming temperatures has already resulted in our lands flooding, hurting the people and wildlife that rely on them.
Fortunately, a new bill recognizes the power that our great state’s farms, forests and woodland have to create a cleaner future for wildlife and people, while also helping our rural economies recover from the COVID-19 crisis.
The bipartisan Growing Climate Solutions Act, which was reintroduced last week in the U.S. Senate, provides our agricultural community with the resources to support common-sense climate solutions on their lands, like storing carbon in soil. Investing in our fields, farms, and forests not only helps reduce pollution, but also helps preserve habitat for birds.
