LOCAL NEWS | JUNE 10, 2021June 10, 2021 in News Last week marked a giant step toward normalcy for many seniors as the LIFE Geisinger day center in Lewistown, and other facilities across northeastern Pennsylvania, reopened for social and recreational activities.  More than one year ago, the COVID pandemic put a pause on activities, preventing participants from enjoying the social perks offered by the program.   Now that most LIFE Geisinger staff and participants are fully vaccinated, it is once again deemed safe for seniors to take part in the various social activities that enhance their quality of life.   Perry County may be awarded a $500,000 housing rehabilitation grant later this year.  County residents are encouraged to apply now to get on the waiting list to receive no-cost homerepairs. Democratic Candidates Selected For Harrisburg City Council (Harrisburg, PA)   Democratic voters in Harrisburg are choosing who will run for city council in November. Four party members out of a pool of 13 were selected during Tuesday s primary election. The nominations are Ralph Rodriguez, Jocelyn Rawls, Shamaine Daniels and Ausha Green. No Republican candidates announced their bid to run, so all four nominees will most likely secure terms on city council. Harrisburg School Board Candidates Picked For November (Harrisburg, PA)   The candidates for the Harrisburg School Board is now set for this year s general election. Brian Carter, Danielle Robinson, Roslyn Copeland and Jaime Johnsen were nominated in the Democratic party. The Republican nomination went to Ezra Match. The total results are unofficial at this time until they are certified.

Republicans appeared poised to keep the Pennsylvania 48th Senate District as Christopher Gebhard claimed victory with a majority of votes in Tuesday s special election.  The North Cornwall resident held a sizable lead in a special election Tuesday against Democrat Calvin Clements, independent Ed Krebs and Libertarian Tim McMaster. The district includes Lebanon County and parts of York and Dauphin counties.
