Mike Avella Jr. remembers petitioning alongside his father – the state government veteran Michael Avella – when he was only 10 years old. The father and son duo still work together, now at Dickinson & Avella, a strategic governmental relations firm focusing on the state Capitol. As a government affairs associate, Avella Jr. represents the interests of a multitude of clients ranging from large corporations to advocacy coalitions.
“We represent so many different people,” the younger Avella says. “I don t think there s a sector that we don t touch. One minute I could be working on technology, the next one on voting rights, then criminal justice reform, and then helping out the Mets safely reopen.”

Johnson, 52, the retired trial lawyer and Republican who defeated former Mayor Valerie Keehn in November, said a new franchise agreement being discussed in Albany will preserve the amount of money the New York Racing Association has been paying the city, county and city school district in taxes for decades.

MALTA The announcement last week that computer chip manufacturer GlobalFoundries would move its headquarters to New York was a milestone in a journey that began nearly a quarter-century ago.
New jobs won’t immediately be transferred to the Fab 8 semiconductor factory in Malta because many of the headquarters functions and personnel already had been moved there from Silicon Valley.
