Carvers Clubhouse in Ringwood Summer of Play activities

A COMMUNITY centre in Ringwood has unveiled a packed programme of summer activities with comedy and circus skill events. Carvers Clubhouse’s “Summer of Play” activity programme has been inspired by a national campaign to give children the time, space, and freedom to play this summer as Covid restrictions are eased. The programme, which runs for the school summer holidays, features organised and informal opportunities for play and fun. August 6 Youngsters can embrace their inner clown when the Steamship Circus visits on August 6 for a circus skills day. August 10 Matt Ware, renowned table tennis coach, will be available on August 10 to give adults and children tips to improve their game.

Volunteers turn out for Ringwood and Poulner litter picks

In total 190 sacks of litter were collected by people representing 24 local organisations. A team of eagle-eyed experts pinpointed litter hotspots using Google maps, and groups headed off to 31 different locations with litter pickers, gloves and bags. Locations included the Castlemain trailway, Carvers Recreation Ground, Poulner Common, and the A338 layby. The event was organised by Lindsay Andrews, of Plastic Free Ringwood. She said: “After collecting so many bags of litter over the weekend, the town and surrounding countryside is noticeably cleaner. “Amazing that we have had so many volunteers out collecting - it really should be a wake up call to people. Please, take your litter home. It’s not difficult or complicated, it’s just a small way to make the world a better place.”
