On the Town: Poet laureate, others to shed light on state’s history By: Lillie-Beth Brinkman The Journal Record April 6, 2021 Lillie-Beth Brinkman Learn about little-known Oklahoma history and explore different viewpoints during the Oklahoma Historical Society’s upcoming and virtual annual conference, including from U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo, who lives in Tulsa and is the keynote speaker. With a theme of “Perspectives in History,” the 2021 Oklahoma History Conference will be a virtual one April 22-23. Organizers encouraged presentations that would share the stories of underrepresented groups, lesser-known topics and new points of view, a news release noted. Harjo will speak at noon April 22. She is a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and the first Native American to hold the poet laureate position. She has written nine books of poetry and a memoir,
