The Hidden Competitive Advantage That Sets Apart Consultants Favorite Asset Managers

Asset managers who commit to strong diversity and inclusion initiatives are better perceived overall and may be more likely to land mandates, according to Coalition Greenwich. The consulting and research firm found a positive correlation between an asset manager’s perceived commitment to D&I initiatives and the overall market’s perception of those managers, according to a paper by Greenwich consultant Susan Gould. From 2018 to 2020, Coalition Greenwich asked investment consultants to evaluate and compare asset managers based on their D&I initiatives. Research finds that diversity in asset management pays off

James Langton When it comes to hiring asset managers, a commitment to diversity can be a competitive advantage, according to new research from Greenwich Associates. The U.S.-based consulting firm reported that a study of institutional investors and consultants found that, all else being equal, asset management firms that have made commitments to diversity and inclusion (D&I) are more likely to be selected for investment mandates or recommended by consultants. Specifically, firms with the highest scores for diversity were three times as likely to make consultants’ short lists, Greenwich said. “When investors begin their manager search, performance and experience tend to top the list of important qualities. As the selection process whittles down to the final few, and differences among remaining managers begin to blur, investors broaden their selection criteria to factors that demonstrate cultural compatibility,” the study noted.

The group of D&I leaders consisted of managers who received the top 10 highest ratings for diversity and inclusion. Utilizing a pool of 126 money managers, the study asked investment consultants which firms they would recommend for a manager search, and a total of 27 managers were noted. Of that total, 21 were D&I leaders, according to the report.

Memories of Budo linger

Daily Monitor Dear Tingasiga;  Images of an inferno engulfing Grace House at King’s College, Budo sent a chill down my spine. Happily, we lost no human life, and the building will be restored.   If you’re feeling down and out, because of your life’s exertions, come with me my friend, to a place so special, of beauty and peace untroubled, with memories of dear ones lost, in their dreamless sleep eternal.  Memories of Budo, where adolescence surrendered to adulthood, restore my strength anew, my breath just comes with ease, light up my soul so bright, and banish all the darkness.
