NEPA stands for the National Environmental Policy Act which was signed into law by President Richard Nixon on January 1, 1970.
[NEPA] requires the federal government to use all practicable means to create and maintain conditions under which man and nature can exist in productive harmony.
On the NEPA.gov homepage it says that the legislation is the “‘Magna Carta’ of Federal environmental laws.” This all may sound like fanciful descriptions of a federal statute, but NEPA really is one of the most far-reaching pieces of legislation in American history, and as such it can cause great controversy with how and when it’s applied; and when it’s ignored by the executive branch for political or ideological reasons. ....

, Calif. (July 15, 2021) – The San José Planning Commission has new leaders elected by the commission as well as new members appointed by the City Council. The start of the new fiscal year 2021-22 marks the first year where the commission meets as an 11-member body, following voter approval in November 2020 of Measure G that, among other things, expanded the commission membership from seven to 11.
At the Commission s last meeting of fiscal year 2020-21, on June 9, commissioners elected Commissioner Rolando Bonilla (District 5) as Chair and Commissioner George Casey (District 10) as Vice-Chair.
Bonilla was appointed by the Council to his first term as a commissioner in 2019 and served as Vice-Chair prior to becoming Chair. Bonilla is the Chief Strategy Officer for Voler Strategic Advisors, a public relations firm. His family has deep roots in East San José, having lived there for nearly 50 years.
