The Gadsden Airport Authority will hear presentations from prospective purchasers/leasers of an 88-acre parcel of land on Steele Station Road at its next regular meeting, at noon Aug. 20. GAA Chairman Harry McLendon said Tuesday that the meeting likely will be in Meeting Room 1 at The Venue, and will be followed Aug. 27 by a meeting for public comments and discussion. McLendon said the authority is asking that presentations be kept to 45 minutes or an hour. The GAA has heard from two potential buyers/leasers Pilgrim s Pride, for construction of a rendering plant; and the Etowah Community group, which made an alternative offer to buy or lease to property to develop an industrial park for light industry. ....

Knowles and attorney Joshua Sullivan argued Thursday against motions to dismiss two lawsuits. One of the suits was filed on behalf of Dynamic Collision, challenging the zoning of the proposed site. The other was filed by Choice Fabricators and Advance Etowah, alleging a failure to provide documents related to the plant from the City of Gadsden, Gadsden-Etowah Industrial Development Authority and the Gadsden Water Works and Sewer Board. Knowles argued that documents she s received limited ones from the Water Works and some from other sources indicate there is more information out there. She says it should be subject to discovery and made available to the plaintiffs. ....
