Former Louisville assistant Dino Gaudio charged with felony extortion By Former Louisville assistant coach Dino Gaudio has been charged with felony extortion in a claim filed Tuesday in the United States Western District of Kentucky. Men s basketball head coach Chris Mack fired Gaudio in March. The claim alleges that Gaudio threatened to report allegations of recruiting violations to the media unless the university paid his salary for an additional 17 months or in a lump sum equivalent to 17 months salary. Gaudio allegedly went to an unidentified Louisville athletics personnel member and said he had videos of prospective student athletes that the basketball program had created, as well as evidence that the Cardinal graduate assistants had participated in practice. Both would qualify as Level II NCAA violations.

LSU is self-imposing a one-year ban on postseason play for this season as part an effort to cooperate with an NCAA probe into rules violations. “LSU leadership made this decision after careful deliberation and review of the NCAA rules violations that have been discovered in the university’s cooperative investigation with the NCAA” and Independent Accountability Resolution Process, the athletic department said in a statement. “This decision reflects LSU’s commitment to compliance with NCAA regulations and maintenance of institutional control.”
