After going “missing” for a year,
Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act or MCOCAaccused Right to Information (RTI) activist Ravindra Barhate had strolled into the Pune police commissionerate on Tuesday and been arrested by sheepish cops, after he revealed that he had been in the city all along.
On Wednesday, the sessions court remanded Barhate in police custody till July 16. His son’s police custody was extended to July 9. The court also remanded his wife Sangita (49) and lawyer Sunil More (49) in judicial custody.

RTI activist Ravindra Barhate, who was on the run for the past 18 months, was arrested from Bibvewadi area of Pune city. The stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) was invoked against Ravindra Barhate who has 17 cases against his name.
Barhate has 17 cases against his name, including for fraud and land grabbing, after which MCOCA was invoked against him and his associates, Pune police commissioner Amitabh Gupta said.
MCOCA has been invoked in two case that had been registered at Chaturshringi and Hadapsar police station.
Amitabh Gupta mentioned that till date, 32 of his accomplice have been arrested, and Barhate is the 33rd arrest. He is alleged to be the mastermind in all the 17 cases registered in Pune city.

Nearly a month after an explosives-laden SUV was found parked a short distance from Mukesh Ambani’s residence, Antilia, all investigative leads seem to be converging in Thane, a satellite city north of Mumbai.
The two vehicles, a white Innova, allegedly driven by assistant police inspector Sachin Vaze, and the light-green Scorpio, allegedly driven by one of his aides, started towards South Mumbai from Thane, 30 km away, on February 24. On the intervening night of February 24-25, the Scorpio was left parked 500 metres away from the Ambani residence on Carmichael Road, with 20 sticks of commercial blasting gelatin and a note threatening the family inside the vehicle.
