The Summit League Has Two Finalists for Becky Hammon Award
The finalists for the 2021 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award have been announced with two players from the Summit League on the list.
University of South Dakota s Hannah Sjerven and South Dakota State s Myah Selland are both finalists for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award. The award was started last year and awarded to USD s Ciara Duffy.
Sjerven helped lead the Coyotes to another Summit League championship and another NCAA Tournament berth. The Rogers, Minnesota native averaged 17.1 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game this season. She was also named to the Summit League All-Tournament team for the third straight season.

University of Maine basketball star Blanca Millán has been named one of five finalists for the 2021 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award.
Millán, a senior guard from Spain, is the first player in America East Conference history to be named Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year twice.
The other finalists for the Hammon Award are Kierstan Bell, Florida Gulf Coast; Muah Selland, South Dakota State; Hannah Sjerven, South Dakota; and Ilmar’l Thomas, Cincinnati.
Coming off a successful junior year campaign and winning Summit League Tournament MVP, senior center Hannah Sjerven received a nod to the 2021 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watchlist.
Sjerven who is also a full time graduate student studying sports psychology finds new ways to excel in the classroom and on the court every year.
“I think it’s something I wasn’t expecting at all and it’s really cool, especially since Ciara (Duffy) got it last year,” Sjerven said. “It’s only the second year of the award and [Becky Hammon] is definitely a role model for anyone that plays women’s sports. Now she’s coaching in the NBA which not a lot of women get to do, so I am very honored to even be on the list.”
