It is a simple gesture, really. A glance over the shoulder. How many of us have done this? But for the Rev. Gilbert Sim, that glance tells the grim reality his San Diego congregants and Asian Americans around the country have been living.
“Many of us actually are terrified by the incidents, by how this whole thing got escalated so fast,” says Sim, who is the pastor of First Chinese Southern Baptist Church in Clairemont Mesa. “All of a sudden, there are thousands of cases.”
And this is when he turns his head and looks over his shoulder. “We don’t like that feeling,” he says. “Nobody likes that feeling.” ....

Police Obtain Arrest Warrant in Killing of Yale Student From Chicago

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant charging Qinxuan Pan, MIT graduate, with murder in the fatal shooting of Yale graduate student from Chicago Kevin Jiang, New Haven police announced Saturday.
Pan, 29, was last seen driving with family in Duluth or Brookhaven, Georgia earlier this month, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Family members told investigators Pan was carrying a black backpack and was acting strange.
U.S. Marshals joined the investigation and charged Pan with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Police Chief Otoniel Reyes said Pan, should be considered armed and dangerous and the public should use extreme caution if they come into contact with him. ....

Slain Yale student laid to rest by Connecticut National Guard in ceremony honoring his military service

The ConnecticutNational Guard on Tuesday laid to rest one of its own, Kevin Jiang the U.S. Armyveteran and Yale University graduate student gunned down outside his vehicle in New Haven two weeks ago.
Jiang, who would have turned 27 on Valentine’s Day, was laid to rest at State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, Conn.
Photos shared with Fox News by the Connecticut National Guard showed Guardsmen salute Jiang’s casket, draped in a United States burial flag, before it was slowly lowered beneath the snow-covered ground. Three flags, folded into the symbolic tri-cornered shape, were presented: one to Jiang s mother, one to his father and one to his fiancée, Zion Perry. ....

The US Marshals Service, who have joined the investigation, said on Thursday night that the suspect was spotted in Georgia earlier that day, driving with family in the Atlanta suburbs. According to the New York Times, Pan has been charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and interstate theft of a vehicle in connection with the killing of Jiang.
After attending St Therese Chinese Catholic School in Chinatown, Jiang graduated from Maine South High School in Park Ridge.
“He didn’t come from a whole lot, it was just him and his mom,” Eric Novak, one of his high school teachers, told the Sun-Times. “He worked after school in a telemarketing job and then went fishing after work and he would show us pictures and be like ‘This is what I caught and I made it for my mom for dinner.” ....
