The Siskiyou County Historical Society announced a new season of historic tours this week.
Two rounds of tours will be featured this year. The first gets underway Friday, April 16 with the Evergreen Cemetery Walking Tour, followed by the Third Street Historic Homes Walking Tour Saturday, April 17, the St. Joseph’s Cemetery Walking Tour Sunday, April 18, and the Historic Miner Street Walking Tour Monday, April 19.
All events will begin at 5 p.m. and will be led by Mike Grifantini, who has deep roots in Siskiyou County and a wealth of historical knowledge to share. First-round tours will continue through Sunday, June 13 with additional walking tours of the City Cemetery, Greenhorn Mining/Casson (City) Ranch, the “Memories of Hilt,” and the “Hawkinsville Portuguese Experience.”
Former Siskiyou judge Bob Kaster publishes second thriller novel

Those who read and enjoyed retired Siskiyou County judge Bob Kaster s first book will be be excited to hear he s had a sequel published.
“The Mansion – A Septuagenarian Thriller,” was self-published and can be purchased locally at Zephyr Books & Coffee and MacGregor’s Book Nook in Yreka. The books are also available from Amazon, both in paperback and Kindle e-book. His first novel, The Septuagenarian: An R-Rated Thriller, was published in August of 2019.
Kaster said it certainly helped to have already written a novel when he began work on his second endeavor. “You learn a lot just by doing it,” Kaster said, adding it helps that he s also an avid reader.
