Fox Chapel Area High School and Dorseyville Middle School students won awards as part of the virtual 87th Annual Region 7 Meeting of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS). District first-place winners were seniors Jackson Romero and Sanjay Seshan; juniors Zoe Lakkis and Siddharth Yende; sophomores Lawrence Liu and Arvind Seshan; freshmen Lakshanya Rajaganapathi and Adhitya Thirumala; and eighth graders Anna Delale-O’Connor, Etash Jhanji and Rohit Velankar. First-place winners qualified for the state PJAS competition which will be held virtually in May.

Students place in forensic tourney Two Fox Chapel Area High School students placed at the virtual Deer Lakes Invitational Forensic Tournament. Freshman Isabella White won second place in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and received her first bid to qualify for the Pennsylvania High School Speech League State Championships. Sophomore Silas Owens won sixth place in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. The tournament was Feb. 20 with about 215 students participating. ^ Fox Chapel spring musical scheduled The Fox Chapel Area High School 2021 spring musical, “Songs for a New World,” will be presented online April 15 to 18. Show times are 7 p.m. on April 15, 16 and 17 and 2 p.m. on April 18.

A group of Shady Side Academy Junior and Middle School families organized a “No Hungry Kids!” fundraiser to support the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank in December and raised more than $5,300. The Delfyett, Iannetti, Khalil, Walsh and Zureikat families created a video that was shown during Zoom assemblies at both schools and also emailed to parents to educate the community about hunger and the importance of nutrition. The team of students raised $5,301 from 67 donors.
