At a crossroads: Ward St was the scene of furious activity on Monday, with the Innovating Streets trial reducing traffic to an east-to-west flow only. The flow will reverse to west-to-east next week. A portion of Rostrevor St, between the Tristram St roundabout and the Norton Rd roundabout, has also been completely closed to traffic and the tarseal surface adorned with an eye-catching mural designed by Boon Hamilton Street Art Festival director Craig McClure and artist Paul Bradley. Sections of two Hamilton city streets are being closed to traffic or have restricted access for a 10-week trial aimed at showing people how they could be made safer, easier and more enjoyable spaces.
They are a section of Rostrevor Street (between Boyes Park and Hinemoa Park) and a section of Ward Street (between Tristram Street and Anglesea Street).

A section of Rostrevor Street at Boyes and Hinemoa Park has been shut off as part of the $902,000 “innovating streets of change trial”. Zhang and pharmacist Johny Vwong see traffic backing up at the Tristram and Rostrevor intersection from late afternoon. “I just don’t understand why they’ve installed the speed bumps, it’s only going to increase people s frustration,” Vwong said. “Exactly what are they trying to do on the street?”
