This was the finding the World Travel & Tourism Council’s annual Economic Impact Report (EIR) today, June 2, revealed.
The annual EIR from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) representing the global Travel & Tourism private sector, reveals the sector’s contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) dropped 41.4 per cent.
Travel & Tourism’s impact on the nation’s GDP fell from USD$ 90 billion (22.5%) in 2019, to USD$ 52.8 billion (14.6%), just 12 months later, in 2020.
The year of damaging travel restrictions which brought much of international travel to a grinding halt, resulted in the loss of two million Travel & Tourism jobs across the country.

Updated June 1, 2021 5:01pm The House of Representatives on Tuesday approved on third and final reading the Bayanihan 3 stimulus package, which seeks to provide P401 billion worth of interventions to help Filipinos recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. Voting 238-0-1, the lower chamber approved House Bill 9411 or the proposed Bayanihan to Arise As One Act. The said measure aims to extend financial assistance worth P2,000 to all Filipinos, regardless of their status in life, in two tranches. A total of P216 billion was allotted for the cash assistance which will be given to all 108 million Filipinos.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 1) - The House of Representatives on Tuesday approved on third and final reading the third version of the Bayanihan bill or COVID-19 stimulus package worth ₱401 billion.
House Bill No. 9411 or the “Bayanihan to Arise as One Act”, was approved on a vote of 238-0 with one abstention. A counterpart bill still needs to pass the Senate, where lawmakers said they are in no hurry to tackle the measure.
The House bill allocates ₱216 billion for a ₱2,000 financial aid to be given to all Filipinos in two tranches.
