Special Olympics Flame of Hope torch to be carried through Clarksville this weekend

CLARKSVILLE, TN – This year, Special Olympics Tennessee is completing a statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run carrying the Flame of Hope across the state. Their goal is to have the entire state completed by end of July 2021. Retired Chief Joe Casey, Metro Nashville Police Department, has been a longtime supporter of Special Olympics and instrumental in bringing the Law Enforcement Torch Run into a global movement. To honor his commitment, they are hosting a Statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run in 2021. They are running the Flame of Hope across Tennessee with a goal of completing the entire state by the end of July.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Here’s a good way to get a wake-up call on a winter’s day: Go jump in a swimming pool. With the outdoor temperature in the mid 40s, that’s just what close to 50 brave souls did Saturday morning at the annual Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics athletes. Austin Peay State University’s Foy Recreation and Fitness Center was the site for the event, which raised more than $5,000 as teams and individuals jumped feet first into the water under the watchful eyes of APSU lifeguards. Amy Parker, Vice President of Marketing and Development for Special Olympics Tennessee, said the plunge in Clarksville was the first in-person event of the season for the organization.

Clarksville Now CLARKSVILLE, TN – Every year, Austin Peay State University students and people in the Clarksville community get ready to support a great cause as they face ice-cold pool temperatures at the Foy Recreation and Fitness Center. The reason – to support the Special Olympics Tennessee athletes. COVID-19 has had a significant impact on Special Olympics Tennessee athletes who have been unable to interact with others. This separation can lead to serious conditions and has an impact on mental health and physical well-being. The athletes have no way to partake in the activities they love, however, with the plungers who have committed to the Polar Plunge, virtual fitness activities can still occur for the athletes.
