Travel to Leola's Lady Land to Learn Gay History for Straight People

Gay History for Straight People, a “Gay through Z guide through the complexities of the LGBTQYMCA+ community.” The Luna Stage performances will be held at Valley Arts in Orange, NJ and Van Vleck Gardens in Montclair. All five performances will be held outdoors. The Van Vleck Gardens performance is presented in association with Out Montclair in honor of Pride Month. The enthusiastic and loving personality of the show is exactly what we need as we ease back into life and live performances. The delightful Leola, described as “your favorite Kelly Clarkson-worshipping, senior citizen, redneck lesbian,” is the sole character in the show, aimed at a 16+ audience. Leola’s goal is to help her audiences find the happiness that comes with living as our true selves. A 72-year-old who came out as a lesbian at age 70, Leola has jumped heels first into gay culture and spreading self-acceptance and celebrating love of all kinds. KU Law team wins national championship at Indian law moot court competition

Tue, 03/02/2021 Third-year law student Zachary Kelsay, of Independence, Missouri, and first-year law student Emily Depew, of Neodesha, defeated Columbia Law School in the final round of the virtual competition Feb. 27. Austyn Caisse won the second-place award for Best Spoken Advocate, and Depew won the third-place award for Best Spoken Advocate. “Competing in NNALSA would have been impossible without the support of the KU Law community,” Depew said. “We are incredibly thankful to our coaches, teammates and faculty who spent endless hours teaching us about Indian law and judging practice rounds. Preparing and participating in the competition was intellectually challenging and rewarding.”

The BLACK FORUM is a spoken-word and poetry label that ran for three years in the early 1970s. In addition to newly recorded releases, BLACK FORUM will reissue six of the albums that helped establish the label. First of the reissues will be Dr. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.’s 1970 album. “Why I Oppose the War in VIETNAM.”  The LP won a GRAMMY for Best Spoken Word.
