Beacon Hill Roll Call: April 26 to April 30, 2021
Modified: 5/7/2021 3:11:33 PM
Beacon Hill Roll Call record local representatives’ and senators’ votes on roll calls from the week of April 26 to April 30. All the House roll calls are on the House version of a $47.7 billion fiscal year 2022 state budget.
Most of the decisions on which representatives’ amendments are included or not included in the budget are made “behind closed doors.” Or in the COVID-19 era, “behind closed Zoom meetings.” Of the 1,157 budget amendments proposed, most of them were bundled into consolidated “mega” amendments. This year there were seven mega amendments and all but one, which had just one vote against it, were approved unanimously. ....

Print this article
Fortunately for those of us who don t like filing income taxes and potentially paying the government more money, Tax Day isn t on April 15 this year. The federal government pushed the date back for the second year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, people have until May 17 to get this unpleasant task done.

Cancellation of activities and in-person classes at McMinnville High School last year led to a decrease in students continuing to college after their socially-distanced graduation.
Educators don’t want that to happen again.
“It’s really a challenge to keep interest high” without seeing students face-to-face in the building, said Veronica Chase, an assistant principal at MHS.
McMinnville’s elementary children are expected to start hybrid classes in March, but district officials have yet to decide when, or if, Grizzlies will return to the building this spring. ....
