Sand Mountain school superintendents make coronavirus safety plans for next fall
School districts are making their safety plans for the fall semester.

We talked with superintendents in Sand Mountain who say they are keeping some coronavirus precautions in place, but campuses will look closer to how they did before the pandemic. My effort has been a measured approach to follow the ADPH guidelines and to provide as much normalcy as possible with our students and staff, said Dr. Cindy Wigley, Superintendent with Marshall County Schools.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WAFF) - A statewide mask mandate will expire in Alabama this Friday, but school leaders still must decide what happens in their own districts.
Starting on April 12th, masks will no longer be required at DeKalb County Schools, as long as the Governor doesnât change her decision.
âWeâve seen a steady decline in cases and itâs almost been non-existent for the last several weeks at our schools. Just like we have the last several months and past year, we will be responsive on any tends, data or upticks and will respond when necessary,â said Barnett.

As of Wednesday, Alabama has passed 10,000 coronavirus deaths.

As of Wednesday, Alabama has passed 10,000 coronavirus deaths.
The Alabama Department of Public Health noted that of the 10,000 deaths, almost 80% were people ages 65 and older. As of the last update Wednesday, there have been 497,154 cases in the state.
Of the 10,029 statewide coronavirus deaths, 200 were in Marshall County. The Marshall County Coroner s Office says it saw a 25% jump in deaths from 2019 to 2020, not all because of the virus.
Just a few months ago, Marshall County Schools lost their transportation director, Tim Gilbert, to the virus.
