One of Australia s most exclusive boys schools could become co-ed in a move designed to change its culture after it was included among other schools in a petition started by young women urging a change to the culture surrounding sexual assault. Cranbrook School - which has past students including generations of the Packer family, Atlassian billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes, Channel Nine boss David Gyngell and entertainment icon Garry McDonald - has been a boys-only school since its founding in 1918. Now there is a plan, circulated between principal Nicholas Sampson, senior staff and directors for Cranbrook to admit girls to join its International Baccalaureate Diploma classes from as soon as next year. 

Australian children to be given special lessons on consent

Australian schools will soon be provided with more material about consent, respectful relationships and sexual abuse for students from prep to year 12. Former Sydney school student Chanel Contos, 22, has launched a petition called Teach Us Consent, which advocates for earlier and improved sex education. Federal Education Minister Alan Tudge says he admires the courage of Ms Contos and others who have shared stories after being encouraged by her petition. I ve got to say I ve been quite shocked at the extent of the number of people who are coming forward, he told Sky News on Thursday. The petition has sparked almost 3,000 testimonies from women who experienced sexual abuse or misconduct at school.

Principal at elite boys school saddened and angry by his school students treatment of women

The principal of one of Sydney s most elite private boys schools has said he was angry and saddened to hear about the awful treatment of girls by some of his students. Tony George, principal of The King s School in Parramatta, wrote of his dismay at the allegations of sexual intimidation and violence against private school boys including King s students in the latest school newsletter, The King s Herald. The allegations first  emerged when former Kambala student Chanel Contos, 22, collected a series of testimonies and began an online petition to improve sex education in private schools. The King s School Principal Tony George wrote a letter to parents praising the courage of Chanel Contos and calling for action to prevent sex abuse - in particular to restrict alcohol
