Merton to hold virtual Holocaust Memorial Day event

Merton Council set to host virtual event due to Covid-19 A virtual event will be held to mark international Holocaust Memorial Day in Merton. Merton’s civic event marks Holocaust Memorial Day ( January 27), which commemorates the 76h anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. This year’s theme ‘Be the light in the darkness’ encourages everyone to remember the victims and survivors of genocide, and take a stand against prejudice and hatred today.  The annual day is to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution during the Second World War, and the more recent genocides in Bosnia, Cambodia, Darfur, and Rwanda.
