19th annual Tyler Brett Caruso Memorial Concert set for May 27 in St Charles

Posted5/26/2021 12:31 PM The St. Charles community will celebrate music, unity, and hope as the 19th annual Tyler Brett Caruso Memorial Concert kicks off the summer concert series in Lincoln Park, between 4th and 5th streets in downtown St. Charles. The free concert, scheduled from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 27, will celebrate the life of Tyler Caruso, a St. Charles East High School student leader, musician, athlete, and community activist who died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on July 14, 2002, at the age of 17.   Tyler devoted countless hours to the betterment of his high school and community. He had dreams for the future. Once such dream has become a reality over the past 19 years with the help of many dedicated individuals from the St. Charles Park District and high school representatives on the board of the Downtown St. Charles Partnership (now St. Charles Business Alliance).

St Charles Unit District 303 INCubatoredu teams compete in Final Pitch Night

  Updated 5/24/2021 11:36 AM Four student teams competed in the St. Charles Unit School District 303 INCubatoredu Final Pitch Night on May 18 in a virtual program. INCubatoredu students from both high schools pitched their ideas to a panel of judges in order to qualify for the final event.   • Fog Shield, East High School: Nikhil Jain and Trenton Bush • Comfy Spine, North High School: Mauricio Vazquez, Carley Abi-Rached, and Zach Glaser • What Not Plant Shop, East High School: Abhi Patel and Yarik Rybkin • Ringed Ice Cream, North High School: Jayden Lobliner, Andrew Caldwell, Kevin White, and Lucas Bolender Student entrepreneurship teams presented their final business concepts before a panel of industry experts, also known as sharks, in a competition for funding. The winners of Final Pitch Night are awarded funding they can use as they move into the Accelerator class next year.

While demand for such summer programs is high, there also is tremendous fatigue. Constant switching between remote and in-person learning has taken its toll on students, who also are dealing with pandemic restrictions and social isolation from peers.   To make up for learning loss, many suburban schools are offering expanded summer opportunities. Among those is Elgin Area School District U-46, which for the first time is partnering with community organizations to offer in-person summer enrichment programs providing fun, innovative, artistic experiences, as well as physical fitness and outdoor recreational activities for elementary students.
