KC-area hospitals see shift in supply, demand for COVID-19 vaccines
Some Kansas City metro hospitals have COVID-19 vaccines available, a difference from the high demand earlier in the year.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. â Kansas City-area hospitals are seeing a huge shift in supply and demand for COVID-19 vaccines.
A few months ago, they were a precious commodity. Now, hospital leaders are asking members of the public to please come get one.
As of Monday morning, Charlie Shields, president and CEO of Truman Medical Centers/University Health, said the hospitals had 1,500 available appointments.
Many people, like Kansas City, Missouri, resident Sara Huff, who saw the hospital s call for sign-ups on 41 Action News, were able to make an appointment and receive their first dose just minutes later.

Colorectal cancer screening rates jumped by more than 1,000 percent when researchers sent take-at-home tests to patients overdue for testing at a community health center that predominantly serves people of color. Instead of the oft-standard text message that simply reminds a patient that they are overdue for screening, researchers from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania made it the default to send a take-at-home test to the patient s home unless they opted out via a text message prompt. Colorectal cancer screening rates remain limited in underserved populations, which includes those in the clinic we partnered with, Shivan Mehta, MD, associate chief innovation officer at Penn Medicine and an assistant professor of Medicine. We saw that there is an opportunity to use text messaging and new insights from behavioral science to increase uptake.

With just about a third to go in the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, Bass Pro is offering to matching donations to red kettles outside its Springfield location up to 20 thousand dollars from December 21st until 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
A representative for Bass Pro says its grateful that the fund will go right back to the community during trying times.
The goal for this year’s kettle campaign is 875 thousand dollars.

AN ARTISTIC initiative has been set up along the coastline commemorating the history of west Dorset and its most influential residents and events. Each parish boundary along the Dorset coast path from Ware, on the Dorset/Devon boundary, all the way to Abbotsbury now has a boundary marker in place to let the walker know they have passed from one parish to the next. Each marker, of which there are 11 in total, has been designed to both be aesthetically pleasing and to represent the history of the area. Among the historical events and people remembered through this project are groundbreaking 19th century palaeontologist, Mary Anning, the believed landing of Danish Vikings on Charmouth Beach in 836 and the Wildcats of Bridport , a group of female net makers who went on strike and marched in protest of a pay cut.
