.- Field of Vision brings together a group of five artists who are acutely sensitive to formal play in creating their own distinct painterly languages. Emphasizing the continued malleable nature of painting as a practice, each artist uses deep material knowledge in their innovative approaches to the medium, allowing for the works to be read intuitively and sensorially.
Kamrooz Aram (b. 1978, Shiraz, Iran) has developed a rich painting practice that reconsiders the position of ornamental and decorative art within the trajectory of Modernism. Referencing the exoticized arabesque in his paintings, the organic forms enclosed in framing borders are pulled from grids in a process of drawing and erasure. .- To coincide with Igshaan Adams inaugural exhibition, Casey Kaplan is presenting a special group exhibition in Gallery II, featuring new artworks by Igshaan Adams, Kevin Beasley, Sarah Crowner, and N. Dash. The four artists use disparate methodologies to trace cultural memory, working with a wide variety of media, including textile, cotton, wire, beads, earth, fiber, acrylic, string, enamel, resin, clothing, and oil. Each material component is imbued with the residue of labor and production, along with stories of lived experience. Resisting medium specificity, each artwork functions as sites for these layered histories, encouraging the viewer to connect through their own narratives.
