Banner on the 10,000-strong April 3rd demonstration in London against the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill
A mass petition with over 600,000 signatures was delivered to the Government on Monday, demonstrating the strength of public opposition to the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill (the Policing Bill).
The petition was handed in to parliament as the Third Reading of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill got underway.
The landmark mass petition was coordinated between humµan rights groups, environmentalists, Gypsy, Roma and Traveller advocates and other charities, gaining 580,000 signatories.
Representatives from this broad coalition of organisations delivered the petition today to the Home Secretary and Justice Secretary, ahead of MPs preparing for the Report stage of the Bill, which also start on Monday.

Police chief defends Kate Middleton for attending unlawful Sarah Everard vigil
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said the Duchess of Cambridge s visit was legal because she was working.

The visit to Sarah Everard s vigil by the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton was legal because it was for work, despite the gathering being deemed unlawful by police.
Metropolitan (MET) Police Commissioner Cressida Dick defended the royal who received criticism for visiting the vigil when it was supposed to have been cancelled at the last minute and moved online. The duchess also arrived at the scene without a mask on. She said the MET knew of Kate Middleton s visit and that they even took precautions not to attract unwanted attention.

The Prime Minister will chair a meeting of the Government s Crime and Justice Taskforce today, which will discuss further steps to protect women and girls and make sure Britain s streets are safe. The meeting will be attended by ministers, senior police officers and representatives from the Crown Prosecution Service. It comes after a public outcry following a vigil for Sarah Everard in Clapham Common this weekend.
