Independence Day events return

Charity Lindsey Special to the Victorville Daily Press This story has been updated to reflect that the fireworks show at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds in Victorville can be viewed from the grandstands or lawn. Following a year with very few gatherings, local celebrations of freedom and fireworks this Fourth of July are aiming to bring the community back together. There are several opportunities to see fireworks coming up, both in the High Desert and surrounding mountain communities. In addition, some of the events are welcoming families to enjoy games, activities, food vendors and more to celebrate Independence Day. Here’s a list of nearby events:

Christmas outreaches help the needy amid the COVID-19 pandemic

Victorville Daily Press Twas the weekend before Christmas and all through the valley, Santa’s elves were busy handing out toys to children like Zoey, Joey and Allie. Volunteers with the Desert Mountain Children’s Center and Victor Valley Rescue Mission distributed food boxes and toys to nearly 2,000 children and their families during the annual “Great Christmas Toy Giveaway” on Saturday at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds in Victorville. Later that evening, the nonprofit High Desert Second Chance also hosted a drive-through food and toy giveaway at its warehouse in Hesperia. The event was held in connection with the VVRM event earlier that day.
