The California Independent System Operator, which manages the electric grid for about 80 percent of the state and a small portion of Nevada, has issued a statewide Flex Alert from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday because of predictions of high energy demand and tight energy supplies across the West.
“With higher than normal temperatures in the forecast for parts of interior Northern California, the power grid operator is predicting an increase in electricity demand, primarily from air conditioning use,” the grid operator, known as the CAISO for short, said in a news release. “The increase can make electricity supplies tight and cause strain on our power grid.”

SANDAG’s board on Friday is expected to approve a project labor agreement platform affecting billions of dollars in future construction work in the region, but a group representing Black contractors is urging it to reconsider.
Members of the Black Contractors Association of San Diego rallied outside SANDAG headquarters in downtown San Diego Wednesday saying the platform would exclude Black Americans from future apprenticeship opportunities in construction. The association, part of the National Black Contractors Association, is the only state and federally approved apprenticeship program specifically for Black Americans.
A project labor agreement, sometimes called a community benefits agreement, involves a government reaching a collective bargaining agreement with labor organizations establishing terms and conditions of employment for a specific construction project.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) City officials in San Diego Wednesday announced a new slate of law enforcement strategies designed to curb a recent surge in local violent crime, and address a worrisome proliferation of unregistered ghost guns. Our city is experiencing an increase in violent crime specifically gun violence that has to be addressed, Mayor Todd Gloria said. This plan is a commonsense approach to reduce crime and protect San Diegans in every neighborhood.
