SCV News | Angeles National Forest Raises Fire Danger Level To Extreme

Fire officials with Angeles National Forest raised the fire danger level from “very high” to “extreme”. The raise in the danger level will affect both the Angeles National Forest and the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. “Fuel moistures on the forest are very dry, this condition combined with high temperatures support rapid fire spread. By restricting the use of fire throughout the forest, and increasing staffing levels, the objective is to reduce the potential of a catastrophic wildfire starting” said Angeles Forest Fire Chief, Robert Garcia. Restrictions include: Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire throughout the national forest and national monument

For just one night, a forest will appear in downtown Los Angeles, part of an outdoor digital light show called “Luminex: Dialogues of Light.” At one site, look for a building-size projection of trees from different perspectives, one looking down on lush canopies, the other looking up from the intricate root system. Japanese artist Akiko Yamashita’s artwork is inspired by her grandfather, who committed himself to planting trees in landscapes left empty after World War II. I learned of California’s iconic National Parks like Joshua Tree later in life, but my mom, like other low-income, single parents, either wasn’t aware of these places or couldn’t afford to take me.
