Inspired by artists like Amanda Gorman, Dallas launches its own poet laureate program
The Dallas Public Library, Office of Arts and Culture and Deep Vellum are launching the literary initiative.

Dallas will soon join other cities like Houston, San Antonio and Los Angeles in designating a poet laureate, all in an effort to boost the city’s literary scene. The poet laureate, whose term will begin in April 2022, will assume a formidable task: building bridges between Dallas’ writers and diverse communities.
The San Antonio Department of Arts and Culture has released the city's official 2021 Fiesta medals which celebrate the latest public art installation of the Bloom sculpture series by San Antonio Artist Leticia Huerta.

In a virtual press event Tuesday, San Antonio-based arts organization Luminaria awarded a total of $54,000 to winners of its 2021 Luminaria Artist Foundation Grants Program. The grants will fund new work by seven Bexar County creators in the literary, visual and performing arts. The grantees also have the opportunity to display their work at this year s Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival, slated for November 13. Their projects must be completed by the grant s March 2022 closure date.
